Totally agree, animatronic creations are better, they seem more real on film, sadly, CGI is here to stay and has completely engulfed filmmaking. It looks like there's no turning back for computer generated images and modern cinema. Our only hope is that some filmmakers out there still see the difference in terms of what ends up on screen and will still try and do things practically and physically on set. Or filmmakers that mix both practical effects with digital ones, like Guillermo del Toro or George Miller.
I was not a big fan of the third movie, but the raptors were scary. They had that feathers and were creepier than ever. When I was watching the first movie I got scared, with The Lost World I already know what these killers were all about, but in the third one they got insanely fast and agile. The puppets had different color and had more danger to it. I wonder, why they dropped feathers in the new movie.
I actually read about the thing with the feathers. I read that in Jurassic Park III they added the feathers because new research had uncovered that in the past, some dinosaurs actually had feathers. But for Jurassic World, the director decided to leave out the feather design to be more truthful to the raptors from the original. Instead, he added different colors for each Raptor. He went on to say that they could get away with these changes because the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park are manufactured, they have dna from different dinosaurs, so according to him, its okay for the raptors to change appearance that way.
Me, I think its an aesthetic thing, the filmmakers behind Jurassic World probably thought the raptors looked a bit silly with all those feathers, so they changed them.
GREAT POST! I haven't seen most of these images! Dinos were definitely better before all the CGI crap took over...

Yeah, even Dr. Henry Wu said in the move, that they never really were aiming for realism.
