Great film, Price, Lorre, everyone involved really made this a great, fun, even spooky film. Love it. My favorite of the three parts was The Black Cat. Awesome.Wings1295https://www.blogger.com/profile/08045644215235749353noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-59689836184678190462010-02-05T03:20:34.840-08:002010-02-05T03:20:34.840-08:00Yeah, it is charming, because of the way Price pla...Yeah, it is charming, because of the way Price plays the wine connoisseur guy, I did enjoy that whole sequence where he is tasting the different wines, the faces he makes are hilarious.

What I didnt like was how the horror elements were downplayed on that one. At the very least, when they find their bodies, they could have looked more like they had been dead for a couple of days.

In this sense, I enjoy Dario Argentos take on Poes The Black Cat much more. Its a more dramatic piece with Harvey Keitel chewing up the screen. Plus...that whole nightmare sequences is incredible!

By the way, there is a similar tale about cats in Tales from the Darkside The Movie, the one where that one cat is getting revenge for all those other thousands of cats that were used in medical experiments. Awesome story as well, and I can bet it was inspired partialy by Poe's The Black Cat.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-6474600775756349442010-02-04T16:58:00.876-08:002010-02-04T16:58:00.876-08:00This isn't my favorite Price pic, but I enjoye...This isn't my favorite Price pic, but I enjoyed re-watching it this past Halloween. I did like the elements with the ghost though, I thought that was really well achieved. Plus the house was so full of cobwebs...but its the same tale.Basically some one comes home to find a pissed of depressed relative...

The Black Cat was the least of my favorites because of its pacing. Sometimes, it would just streeeeetch things so much instead of getting to the point. It seemed to me this was only done to stretch the films run time or something.

But I did find Price and Lorre super funny! The faces that Price makes while tasting his wine! The things Lorre says just before he is going to kill someone...funny stuff. But slow at times..that plus I thought they could had made the dead folks look dead, as it is, when they find the dead bodies...they dont look dead at all.

@Planet: Thanks planet!

@Carl: Yeah, some of the Amicus were superior to these, for example: Tales from the Crypt (1972) an Amicus horror film with that same EC comics feel as these Roger Corman flicks. I will be reviewing Amicus's Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror soon.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-2794130581486713632010-02-02T16:54:34.987-08:002010-02-02T16:54:34.987-08:00I liked this one Franco, but it was a bit slow for...I liked this one Franco, but it was a bit slow for my taste. Lorre and Price were hilarious in the wine tasting scene, but it did lack punch. Loved the High Gothic stylings of the other two as well, I just found myself preferring the Amicus anthology films over this oneI Like Horror Movieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15851268002582984544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-39884275998948353142010-02-02T16:10:53.112-08:002010-02-02T16:10:53.112-08:00Definitely need to check this out. My least favorite is the first one just because it seems like a rushed version of every Roger Corman poe flick, even down to the fiery ending. I do find the third story to be creepy as hell, particularly how Price's face seems to melt away, I like it more than Romero's.

My favorite scene in the whole movie is in the Black Cat, when Peter Lorre and Vincent Price are tasting the wines.
