Thanks for stopping by Alex!

@Jaccstev: I am also extremely happy to see that he is going to be the one directing 'The Wolverine', in this way, a good film is practically assured!

It will be interesting to see Aronofsky handling a commercial film, he has never done one before!

But in any case, it will no doubt be a step up from the last piece of crap Wolverine movie.

Thanks for commenting!Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-79562602479807675402010-12-21T00:59:07.331-08:002010-12-21T00:59:07.331-08:00Aronofsky is up there in the top 2 or 3 directors ...Aronofsky is up there in the top 2 or 3 directors that I have faith will consistently put out top notch stuff. Especially PI and The Fountain. This one deals with psychologically unstable protagonist, much like Rosemarys Baby and Repulsion. Trust me man, you'll find these Ballet dancers interesting, Aronofsky makes it so.

@Neil: I dont know if thats the only reason why they are going to see it, but Im sure thats the main attraction to the film for a LOT of people, all over the world. I spoke to the lady that was behind me on the line and I told her I didnt know this movie was such an event here in Puerto Rico, to my surprise her reply was: "Its a very well made movie" and the guy next to me said "Is this like another Red Shoes?" So I guess some people here are seeing the film for the right reasons as well.

Actually, I'd say puerto ricans are a pretty film savy audience! People go to the movies in droves here!

Thanks to everyone for commenting!Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-18870221329924254382010-12-15T01:37:19.607-08:002010-12-15T01:37:19.607-08:00Great review, Franco. Aronofsky has proved himself, with just a handful of films, to be one of the most consistently interesting and challenging directors in America.

Let me know what you think of 'The Red Shoes' once you've seen it. Bryce at Things That Don't Suck did a brilliant analysis of the central ballet in that film recently.

Interesting that so many people in Puerto Rico seem to being going to the film for the wrong reason, but what the hell? If it opens their eyes to Aronofsky's work and they seek out 'The Fountain' or 'The Wrestler' as a result, then so much the better.Neil Fulwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14686296295535235988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-9996902173749451652010-12-14T19:22:41.392-08:002010-12-14T19:22:41.392-08:00This is a fantastic review! I definitely want to see this and I have no interest in ballet or their dancers. Great stuff!

P.S. And that preassure can drive a person nuts!

Its a very surreal film, it plays with your mind, and in this case, it plays with your mind in the way that only a Polanski film can. Its part of Polanskis "apartment trilogy" for my review of it, go to this link:

http://filmconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2010/06/roman-polanskis-tenant-1976.html

Thanks for commenting Jen!Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-69289775736708484192010-12-14T07:36:17.427-08:002010-12-14T07:36:17.427-08:00I have never seen "The Tenant" but it is...I have never seen "The Tenant" but it is high on my list. I restrained myself from doing so, but if I see it again, I will freaking applaud!

Its an awesome moment, it reminded me of Requiem for a Dream, those last moments when things get really chaotic and visuals and music completely take over the film.

Thanks for commenting!Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-58952018922481726002010-12-14T05:04:00.394-08:002010-12-14T05:04:00.394-08:00Great review. In fact, the whole third half of the film is one symbolism after another, a lot of people hate that sort of thing, but I dug it. The films themes are interesting, its a film that defies you to understand it. Plus the visuals are amazing. I hope you enjoy BLACK SWAN!

@Jen: Aronofsky has stated that Repulsion and The Tenant were both major influences in the making of this picture. Ever seen The Tenant? Its one of Polanskis craziest movies. It plays with some of the same themes as Black Swan, specially when it comes to the homosexual themes.

I've also read some reviews that compare it to Michael Powell's The Red Shoes (1948)...but I've never seen that one. I hear its about a ballerina's obsession with being the perfect dancer, and its kind of nightmarish in a way, but thats all I know. I need to check it out soon.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-3211654687656606392010-12-13T20:25:19.413-08:002010-12-13T20:25:19.413-08:00I just saw this today and I kept thinking of "...I just saw this today and I kept thinking of "Repulsion" the whole time.
