I guess this is the new thing to do in movies?

But these similarities didn't really get in my way of enjoying it, it was too fun, too cool.

Looking forward to seeing that J.J.'s tak on the Star Wars universe.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-56869011505821157912013-05-20T03:10:47.742-07:002013-05-20T03:10:47.742-07:00Hey Franco, good review. I caught this last week.

I enjoyed it for the most part but was a little disappointed with the script.

It felt like the story had been rehashed from several recent films (Iron Man, Skyfall, Dark Knight, DK Rises, Avengers, Tron: Legacy).

Still, it was well directed and really fast paced. Abrahms is going to make an excellent Star Wars director.Jack Thursbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03101157160144955486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-87913410917431636882013-05-18T13:00:12.284-07:002013-05-18T13:00:12.284-07:00Agree with ya Neil, I didn't mind at all, I co...Agree with ya Neil, I didn't mind at all, I couldn't complain because the whole movie had me entertained as hell. As for the negative talk, I guess it's the super trekkies that complain. Of course, same as you, I knew Kirk wasn't going to die, but then again, I knew Spock was going to return for a third film in the old films as well, any film buff knows they just can't kill off important characters, they will always return in one way or another.

Thanks for commenting Neil, hadn't heard from you around here in a while! I've read some negative things about it, mainly alluding to lack of originality (for example, the scene where you think Kirk's done for is something you can't really engage with emotionally because the script has already tipped you off as to the deus ex machina), but on the whole I found it an incredibly entertaining and fast-moving film. Did it bother me that they basically ripped off 'Wrath of Khan'? Not really - in fact I'll take my hat off to 'em: if you're going to liberally help yourself from an existing Star Trek movie, then 'Wrath of Khan' is the arguably the best material you can use.Neil Fulwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14686296295535235988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8293273378239831747.post-15693528981946174352013-05-18T02:36:44.377-07:002013-05-18T02:36:44.377-07:00Agree Dan O, so far it's the best of the Summe...Agree Dan O, so far it's the best of the Summer 2013 movies...it's entertaining every step of the way.

Steve Prefontaine: True, but it still rocks!
